To Our Fans, Friends and Family,
Now that the excitement of being inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame is subsiding we’d like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to our
success over the years.
If we were to begin at he beginning it would be appropriate to thank our mom and dad, Albina Good (Cormier) and Harold Good from Bathurst, New Brunswick. If it weren’t for their encouragement we may never have known the joy of making music as a family. They were, and still are, our musical inspiration.
And then came our dear friend, the late great James Ackroyd who had more influence on us (Bruce and Brian) than he will ever know. With utmost gratitude we give thanks for those wonderful James and The Good Brothers years.
Thanks to Gail Hellund for the San Francisco experience and the Grateful Dead who along with Jack Cassidy of The Jefferson Airplane helped create the first and only James and The Good Brothers recording.
Margaret Good sang in our first group called The Kinfolk and soon became the love of Bruce’s life, and has been for the past thirty seven years. She was also The Good Brother’s first manager and sang on many Good Brothers recordings. Thank you Margaret for all the support and effort over the years.
To all our agents, managers, publicists and record companies we are grateful.
During the seventies, Steve Propas and Neal Dixon of Solid Gold Records, were responsible for propelling us to a new plateau with five albums, eight straight Juno awards and a gold record. Then came Brian Ferriman and the Savannah Music group who recorded two albums and introduced us to Europe.
More recently thanks to the agents at Paquin Entertainment for the past three great years and to Anya Wilson for outstanding promotion and publicity.
To all the buyers and promoters who invited us to play at the many festivals, clubs and events all over North America and Europe. Especially to those who have us back year after year. People like the late Fred Wagner from Grande Prairie Alberta, Fred Schultz from The Barge in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Ed Joseph and Jack Blakely from Havelock Jamboree, Bruno Tiel of The Rattlesnake Saloon in Munich, Germany and the Kinnear family of Pengrowth fame.
A very special thanks goes to the people who expressed their belief by financing our first recordings. Dave Dunn and Tim Lown were there with us in 1975 and Charles ‘Chuck’ Magwood ‘Delivered The Goods’ in 1986 and we’re happy to say that we are all still golfing buddies today.
Hats off to our very ‘Good’ friend Bev Hoyle for the great work as our fan club president over the past twenty-six years. Bev has done a wonderful job with ‘Good Friends’ and coordinating the web site.
Much appreciation goes to Tom Tompkins for musical direction. Tom encouraged us to stay true to our roots.
Thanks to the late Paul Rimstead for his unfaltering wisdom and for the pleasure of just knowing him.
We have played with many awesome musicians including Mike Love, Carl Kees, Danny McBride, Mike McMaster, Lou Moore, Peter Davidson, Red Shea, Howard Crafton, John P. Allen, Dave Mitchell, Jeff Quick and Travis B. Good to name just a few.
Also stage managers and crew, Roger Powell, Doug Brown, Gerry Vachon, Mike Dunleavy, Jeff Leal, Mike ‘Spike’ Sutherland, Sean O’Connor, Graham Sinclair and Brian McCullough for making us look and sound good, no simple task.
Thank you to all our friends at FACTOR and SOCAN it’s a pleasure being your partners and to the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) for this incredible honour.
We’d like to acknowledge four icons in the Canadian music family who, at the ceremony, formally welcomed The Good Brothers as this years Hall of Fame Inductees.
First, to Sylvia Tyson who has always been a great influence and has unknowingly inspired us to sing harmonies and Bruce to play the autoharp. She spoke eloquently.
Richard Flohill who is a leading publicists and journalist in this country who has helped promote and support many Canadian and international acts including The Good Brothers. Thanks for the kind remarks.
Much appreciation goes to Tommy Hunter for the gracious words of welcome and for inviting The Good Brothers to perform on The Tommy Hunter Show on numerous occasions helping to enrich our career’s and that of many Canadian artists over the course of his illustrious tenure as CBC host.
And a very special thank you to our friend and mentor Gordon Lightfoot for taking the time and making the effort to welcome The Good Brothers to The Hall of Fame. It has been a blast recording and performing with Gordon in the past and we look forward to working with him in the near future.
We’d also like to thank Kees de Haan for his support and hard work over the past sixteen years. This February will be our twenty-sixth tour of Europe and we owe it all to our friend and Euro-brother Kees.
And speaking of brothers. Thank you to our brother George whom after supporting us from the beginning took a hands on approach as our manager and executive producer a few years ago. George is responsible for what some people are calling our ‘come back’ and for lifting our music to a new high. Thanks to both George and Suzanne for their continued and generous support.
And finally? to you our fans and friends all over the world. If it weren’t for the loyalty and dedication you have shown over the past thirty years we could never have realized this tribute and honour bestowed upon us. Thanks for all the support you have shown in so many ways. By being at our concerts, by buying our recordings and by the compliments and encouragement you have given us over the years. And most of all, thank you for allowing us to make a career doing something we love to do so much.
Bruce, Brian and Larry
